The North Wales web design family-run business was founded by Colin Baxter in 2005. It Initially traded under the name of BeWebSmart UK Design Solutions. The name Web Intrigue UK was used instead from 2010. The business is now called Web Intrigue CDS (Creative Design Solutions) to distinguish the design part of the business from the SEO (search engine optimisation) service.
Colin came to North Wales in 2003, with experience in the microelectronics and semiconductor industry. The roles involved providing technical support and thorough CAD design flow testing. Part of these roles involved maintaining technical web pages. With professional training in server-side and client-side scripting languages (Perl and PHP), he decided to found his own web design and development business in 2005.
In the last 20 years, many bespoke websites have been designed, deployed, hosted, and maintained to help small and medium sized businesses across North Wales (and beyond) gain and maintain that all important professional Internet presence!
Macromedia (now Adobe) design tools were incorporated into the design flow from the outset. Today, a plethora of design and maintenance tools (and ‘plugins’) are used to develop, maintain, and keep secure client websites.
Colin's Technical Education
Colin left school at 16 and then studied for a BTEC National Diploma in Engineering (Computing and Electonics) at Colchester Institute (college of F. Ed.), Essex.
Colin continued his studies in higher education and two years later achieved a BTEC HND in Electronics Engineering at Anglia Polytechnic University at Chelmsford, Essex, with ‘merit’ awarded in many subjects.
In 1995, Colin graduated with a BEng in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Warwick.
Colin's Industry Background
Colin’s industry background is microelectronics and semiconductors, starting in 1996 as a graduate (junior grade) engineer at Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Limited in Birmingham, the role of CAD Support Engineer. Tasks included installing and configuring electronic design automation (EDA) CAD tools and supporting the electronic design engineers daily with their software tools and desktop issues.
In 1999, Colin moved on to Philips Semiconductors and the post of CAD/EDA Design Flow Specialist. This role entailed methodology and testing of the integrated circuit (IC) RTL to GDSII design automation flows, used by design engineers at Philips across the globe – a task of increasing complexity with the ever shrinking of the technology being designed and implemented in semi-custom ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuits).
Part of these industry roles involved building web pages for the engineers to assist with technical support tasks and to provide server accessible ‘help’ reference technical pages.
